Here's some sketches and a maquette I've been making for a new picture I'm planning to do. The idea was generated by my participating in an exercise called Art By Committee, a group sketch game that James Gurney hosts on his incredible blog Gurney Journey.
James Gurney is the accomplished illustrator of the Dinotopia series of books. He is an incredible painter and is extremely generous in sharing his knowledge of art on his blog.

Hi Dave, these are really cool. I like the addition of the staircase, it gives it a bit more psychological symbolism that's key in mythological storytelling.
